Sometimes the career you never planned for becomes the one that fits you best. That’s what happened to Nathan King. Based in Northern California, he entered the laser industry six years ago after a lifelong interest in technology led him somewhere unexpected.
When we asked how it all started, Nathan shared:
“6 years. I have always had a passion for everything technical, then accidentally found my love for lasers. I’ve found it to be extremely rewarding to know that I have the ability to create impactful memories for so many people. Also, being that I am a bit of an introvert, I love to be able to connect with literally everyone in a room, purely through my art. ”
The 15 Minutes He Won’t Forget
Over the years, plenty of shows have given Nathan reasons to be proud. Still, one experience at Northern Nights Music Festival in 2024 stands apart.
“I’m very proud of all the events I have been able to be a part of, but if I had to pick just one it would be doing the build for LSDREAM at Northern Nights Music Festival in 2024. I only had the ability to busk for about 15 minutes, but it left me in tears! ”
It’s a glimpse into just how personal this work can become for the people creating it.
The Responsibility Behind the Art
While creativity is a big part of the job, there’s one thing Nathan never compromises on.
“Safety first and foremost. I’d be devastated if I ever injured someone, or even worse, caused a person blindness. ”
It’s a responsibility that stays with him every time he steps behind the controls.
For Anyone Hoping to Get Started
Next, we wanted to know what Nathan would tell someone looking at the laser industry and wondering how to break in.
His advice focuses less on finding a quick path and more on putting in the time.
“ Learn as much as you possibly can about the industry. Through YouTube videos, other techs, and experience. You may have to work for pennies or nothing to start, but if you truly work hard and love what you do, the money will eventually come. ”
Onto One of His Biggest Builds Yet
When we caught up with Nathan, his story was already moving into its next chapter.
This time, that chapter was being written in Reno.
“I’m actually in Reno doing the build for the Rebelution tour. Possibly one of my largest events yet! ”
Six years after accidentally discovering his love for lasers, there’s something fitting about where he finds himself today.
The self-described introvert who discovered a way to connect with an entire room through art is now taking that creativity to some of his biggest stages yet.
