For Charlie Tornquist, music came first. Lasers soon followed.
Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this week’s Tech Star Tuesday has spent more than a decade working around live events. His path started with a passion he already had and an opportunity to turn it into something bigger.
A Passion Finds Its Direction
So, how did Charlie get into the industry?
“12 years. I had a passion for music and started renting lasers out for events.”
That beginning opened the door to years of creative work, new challenges, and some pretty exciting stages.
One experience, however, still stands above the rest.
A Night at The Armory
When asked about a highlight or proud moment, Charlie didn’t have to go far from home.
“Busking lasers for Tiesto at The Armory in Minneapolis. ”
Working a performance like that requires more than knowing the equipment. Music changes quickly, and the visuals need to follow its direction.
For Charlie, that connection is a big part of the job.
“Making sure everything is running properly and lasers match the music or vibe. ”
It’s a simple answer that says a lot. Technical precision matters, but so does knowing when the moment calls for something different.

What’s Charlie Been Working On?
Most recently, his work brought him back into Minnesota’s electronic music scene.

It’s a fitting latest chapter for someone whose career began with a love of music.
Twelve years later, that connection is still there. Only now, Charlie gets to help shape what the audience sees while they listen.
