“I’ve been chasing opportunities in the event production industry since I fell in love with it in high school drama club,” she shares.
Matson first carved her path as a lighting designer, but everything shifted when lasers came into play.
“I stumbled into an opportunity to work with lasers and I never looked back.”
That moment sparked a new direction — one that still fuels her today.
Proud Moments That Stick
For Matson, every laser drop is a moment to celebrate.
“Anytime the first laser drop hits and I hear the crowd’s reaction, I find myself beaming with pride. (Heh, get it? beaming?)”
But beyond the jokes, there’s a huge milestone she holds close.
“I am fairly proud of landing my first international tour this past summer, which is what I’ve been working toward since day one.”

When asked about her biggest responsibility during a show, Matson keeps it simple — but strong.
“Awareness. Awareness for safety, efficiency, communication, and whatever conditions or circumstances that may affect the laser show.”
For her, it’s about staying locked in, no matter the stage or setting.
Advice for Future Laser Techs
Matson’s advice for newcomers? It’s all about mindset.
“Humility breeds excellence. No matter how many years you have under your belt, no matter how big the last show you worked on was, there is always something you can learn or improve upon.”
