Jeff Vyduna didn’t plan to become a laser technician. But when his team decided to go a different route, he knew a change was needed to be done.
“The industry chose me because we had to part ways with our laserist, and I wanted to learn the craft.”
Three years later, Jeff’s work speaks for itself—both on stage and beyond.
San Francisco Roots, High-Altitude Highlights
Based in San Francisco, CA, Jeff has taken on shows in a wide range of environments. One of the biggest moments in his career didn’t happen in a venue. It happened in the mountains.
“Seeing my work on the cover of Powder Magazine for Chris Benchetler’s latest film,” he shares.
Getting lasers to work in extreme weather proved to be a challenge that was a success.
“It wasn’t easy to get lasers via helicopter into avalanche terrain and keep them working in that environment. The athletes were great though with the safety aspects.”
That kind of work takes more than tech knowledge—it takes planning, trust, and adaptability.
Managing People and Pressure
Even in traditional venues, the pressure doesn’t let up. Jeff knows that managing gear is only part of the job.
“Managing your team effectively and knowing when to escalate an issue to the client,” he says, is one of his biggest responsibilities.
Sometimes, that means making hard calls.
“Nobody was happy when I said we had to replace a projector that stopped working high on a truss hours before doors, but having one out for the show would have been worse.”
He made the call. The show went on—with all projectors working.
Advice That Sticks
To newcomers in the industry, Jeff keeps his advice simple:
“Don’t be known for your ego.”
It’s a reminder that attitude is just as important as skill—and that teamwork gets the job done.
