The Orlando Magic players were ready for their close-up.
On September 27, the AdventHealth Training Center in Orlando became the setting for a player photoshoot with a different kind of backdrop.
Instead of keeping things simple behind the camera, the shoot brought laser visuals into the mix.
The result gave photographers another creative way to capture the players.
Creating the Shot
Player photoshoots are about more than getting everyone in front of a camera.
The lighting, pose, angle, and background can completely change the final image.
Here, laser beams helped shape that background.
Some could frame a player. Others could create depth behind them. Then, a change in positioning could give the photographer an entirely different shot.
It turned the space into a flexible visual set.
A Setup Made for the Camera
Laser technician Justin Weiss worked with two KVANT ClubMax 24-watt lasers and two KVANT ClubMax 6000 units with PASS for the shoot.
However, this wasn’t about filling a concert venue with beams.
Everything needed to work through the lens.
That meant finding looks that complemented the players and gave the camera something interesting to capture without taking attention away from the person in the shot.
A Different Side of the Orlando Magic
Most people are used to seeing Orlando Magic players under arena lights.
A photoshoot offers something different.
It freezes the moment. It lets the details stand out. And with a little creativity behind the scenes, a training facility can suddenly look nothing like a training facility.
For this September shoot, the players stepped off the court and into the beams.
