Friday afternoon at Winding Hill Park North looked exactly like fall should.
Families arrived. Food trucks were serving dinner. Music played around the park. And there was plenty for kids to explore.
Upper Allen Township’s Fall Fest returned to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on September 25, giving the community hours to enjoy the season together.
But this year also came with another reason to celebrate.
More Than a Fall Festival
The free event ran from 4 to 9 p.m. and marked the 30th anniversary of Trout Run Nature Preserve.
That connection to the outdoors made Winding Hill Park North a fitting place for the celebration.
Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, families could simply make an evening of it. Grab something to eat. Listen to music. Explore the activities. Then stick around to see what happened once daylight started disappearing.
And that’s when Fall Fest began to look a little different.
The Park After Dark
A community park changes quickly when the sun goes down.
Open fields become darker. The crowd settles in. Suddenly, anything happening in the distance becomes much easier to see.
For Fall Fest, that evening setting opened the door for a colorful visual display.
Dynamic FX brought in four 24-watt lasers and four 6-watt lasers, creating a mix of beams that could stretch across the outdoor space and bring a completely different look to Winding Hill Park North.
The afternoon had belonged to classic fall fun.
The evening had its own personality.
A Friday Night Close to Home
That may be one of the best things about events like Fall Fest.
You don’t always need to travel to a major festival or concert venue to find something interesting happening.
Sometimes it’s right down the road.
For Upper Allen Township, September 25 was a chance to celebrate the season, recognize a local nature preserve, and give neighbors a reason to spend a Friday evening outside.
By daylight, Winding Hill Park North was a fall festival.
After dark, it became something else entirely.
