Meet Mitchell Blakemore, a laser technician based in Panama City, Florida. With 10 years in the industry, he has built a career shaped by music, art, and live events. Most recently, on September 20th & 21st, 2025, Mitchell worked as Tech Lead at the Experts Only Festival with John Summit which took place on Randall’s Island in New York City!
Choosing the Industry
For Mitchell, the decision to join this field came naturally. “That’s when I chose to chase happiness and passion and spend this season of my life focusing on art in any form. I love music, and my natural focus is clearly symmetry, timing and colors so I think this was just kind of the obvious option to be as closely involved in the music scene as I could be.” His choice reflects a mix of passion for music and a love for precision.
Career Highlights
Over the years, Mitchell has had moments that shaped his journey. “One being my first MainStage festival set at Imagine Music Festival in 2017 for Flux Pavillion. Fast forward, to coming out of retirement and landing a full-time touring gig with my favorite band Slightly Stoopid (who I’m still with). I had that band on my white board since I started in this industry. Three would be either working with the Afterlife team in Mexico or the Cali Roots stage design/full 360 venue deployment.”
Responsibilities on the Job
When asked about his biggest responsibility, Mitchell is quick to emphasize safety. “Safety obviously. As the industry progresses, very high wattage lasers are being stuffed on stages in groves while at the same time the entry level to get in the industry is incredibly low. So everyone’s trusting to make sure they aren’t hurting anybody, and it’s my job to make sure the industry is educated. It’s quite the weight to carry on site some days.”
Advice for Newcomers
To those who want to enter the industry, Mitchell’s advice is straightforward. “Say yes to everything and be cool. People want to work with people they want to hang with. Learn how to navigate relationships on work sites and be valuable because you’re a sponge. Learn the workflow of deploying a safe and sexy laser show from the bottom up.”
Looking Ahead
Mitchell closes with a reminder about the importance of community and standards. “Honestly, it was a nice reminder for me that me and my team operate at an incredibly high level on the largest of stages, If Laser Light Company isn’t on your radar and you are attempting to produce lasers shows on any scale in this country then we should be. See you guys on the next one! ✌️”
With his dedicated and educated outlook, Mitchell continues to balance passion, responsibility, and creativity in a field that demands all three.
